In class this morning we played with filters. The top one is an image I took off line a distorted... got carried away a bit. The second is an image made from just filters.

New Project Concepts

Once again another project is to begin. This time turning a sketch to a digital image. Due to how busy this semester has been I haven't really had the time to actually put any thought into sketching as of late: instead I have ended up just speedily cranked out random face sketches. So for this project I stepped back and looked into some of the last sketches I did before the semester began. Keep in mind I was going through a mermaid phase.

Color Studies

Working on some color studies for my digital illustration project now. Going for a dark, yet mystical vibe. Goes with the idea of a scary situation, yet a sense of whimsy since its coming from the inside of the young girl's mind.

Value Studies

Another new project has begun in my digital illustration class. This time we are working on an editorial piece. The topic for the project is surveillance or the idea of being spied upon. My idea focuses on how everyone feels like people are constantly watching them and judging based on appearance. For my subject I chose a young girl, because really who would understand that feeling better. Any hoot, first step here is some quick value studies for the project.

Brainstorming the Werid

Self-Portrait Project

Finally finished my self-portrait project for class. The assignment was to choose yourself or someone else and fill a silhouette of them with a background and icons that describe who they are. I thought doing myself would be easy (WRONG). Went with an Alice In Wonderland theme and a serious elegant/regal tone for the project. I really love how the background elements came out, but I wish I could go back and redraw the icons to match more...no more time though lol. But for that I attached a version without the icons.

Color Palettes

Still working on the self-portrait in my digital illustration class. For that, playing with some color palettes. For the theme of my portrait I'm going with Alice In Wonderland, and thus I wanted the color scheme to kinda reflect that either through elegancy or whimsicalness... ideal a balance between those two.

Timed Sketches

With the recent high load of homework I've been experiencing, it's been forcing me to push out quicker sketches. But to make something good out of a crappy situation, I've been practicing my speed sketch abilities. These are two of the better ones that came out from it. Both were done under an hour.

In class working on a background for a project. Really abstract.

Copic Portrait Sketch

Recently I've been trying to get better at working with Copic markers (especially since they tend to be the go to medium for con-sketches & commission work). In that regard I've been drawing some portraits from reference, all the while practicing drawing guys at the same time. Here is the latest one I completed using: cold grey Copics, a white Prisma color pencil, and a white gel pen. Unfortunately my scanner isn't the best... so a lot of the tones got flattened.

Pictogram Classwork

Quick golf pictogram I did for classwork. Guy came out a little bubbly and the pose is a bit boring... but hey it was a 15 minute assignment.

WIP Silhouette

For our first project in digital illustration class we are doing portraits, first step is the silhouette. Here is the work in progress of my self-portrait silhouette.

Digital Art Dump

Since I did an art dump a few days ago, it dawned on me I didn't show any digital art that I've done... so here is a  digital art dump. Now I haven't done too much digitally, really just playing with vector art.

First Post/Art Dump

 Hey all I'm Thomas! With my first post I figured I would introduce myself, and there is no better way to do that then to show of some of my work. I'm an illustration major aiming towards working in comics and to do concept art for the entertainment industry. This is my art blog, and thus the following posts will be that of  sketches, studies, and finished images that I create as I study.
